Florida Private Investigators –  Avoid being a Victim of Identity Theft

Someone’s Identity is stolen every two seconds!!  My years as a private investigator has taught me many valuable  lessons, the most being to protect yourself and assets. Lives can be ruined when someone assumes your identity.  I’ve seen arrest warrants out for someone that did’t commit the crime.  It took a long time to resolve through court proceedings, fingerprinting, DNA and expunging records.  A long process indeed.  The biggest form ofidentity theft involves fraud and theft.  A list below is “How to avoid becoming a victim.”

  • Shred receipts, old bank statements and unused credit card offers.
  • PIN numbers and passwords should be unique.  Avoid using date of birth. Avoid carrying them with you.  [most popular passwords are “password” and “12345”]  Don’t do this.
  • Do not throw out old computer, smartphones and tablets.  Hard drives need to be destroyed.
  • Do not put full credit card account number on a receipt.  Only put last 4 digits.
  • Never put social security numbers on checks.
  • Review all bank and credit card statements.
  • Check your credit report history at least once per year.  This is a free service.
  • Consider using a credit monitoring service.  This service will give you updates on all changes to your credit files.
  • Do not mail checks or personal information from your mailbox.

PROTECT YOURSELF.
