Skip Tracing – Reuniting Mom & Son
When thinking about Skip Tracing cases, it’s not always a negative sitiuation. One case particular comes to mind when I think about these types of cases.
It started as a routine Accident Investigation in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. While our client was walking across the street, she is struck by a company work truck. During our investigation, we conducted the routine witness statements, research and scene photographs and inspections. It is when we speak to the injured party that the investigation takes a turn.
While speaking to her at the hospital, she tells us that her only next of kin is her son, John. They have been estranged for 20 years. She was in critical condition and wanted to see her son again. We obtained information on John and started our “missing persons” research. Due to her condition, we used numerous ISG investigators.
We believed John to still be in the Fort Lauderdale area. Our investigation revealed that he lived in many places in the past 20 years and his last known address was condemned. An arrest record revealed a few trespassing and other minor offenses, consistent with someone that is homeless. A booking photo was obatained from a recent arrest. We spread out over the city, spoke to police officers, homeless shelters and church ministries.
Within a few days of looking for John, we received a break. One of the ministries told us that John receives mail there and that he routinely picks up his mail on mondays. We went there on monday and after a few hours John through the door. We told him about his mom and he started to cry and stated he lost touch with her and didn’t know why it happened. We drove John to the hospital and reunited him with his mother. Her eyes lit up and they hugged and there were tears. Although she was in and out of consciousness, John stayed there by her side. She had nuemrous surgeries during the next week and sadly passed away.
Although she passed away, I believe she did so in peace. Knowing that her son loved and cared for her, brought her the peace she needed at the end of her days.
To an investigator, these cases are very rewarding and touches your heart. Not all skip tracing cases are the same. This one was definitely not. We were very happy that we were able reunite John with his mom.
If you need to find a loved one, use a professional investigator. They have the expertise and experience in locating people.
